Heat Wave

Wow! What a busy week so far! We started off by moving the sheep on the common to some fresh pasture and also separated the cows from the steers ready for the new calves. We sorted and delivered some firewood and finished off some smaller jobs on the farm. On Wednesday we sunk some straining posts for the new fence and trapped some moths; we got several new species for the year, including my favourite so far, the Oak Hook-tip. Yesterday we went to a beautiful farm near Chipping Norton to survey the land for a Farm Environment Plan (FEP)- I learnt to recognise many grassland plant species, including the Green Winged Orchid shown below and we saw some pretty cool bugs too.

Today I had a relaxed day reading in the sun and helped prepare the tractor for a shiny new coat of paint.
